Meet Henry

4 Years Old | Neutered | Children 12+ | No Dogs | Pet Free Home

Meet Henry – a young Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross with a huge heart, a whirlwind of energy, and a deep longing for safety and understanding.
Henry was rescued from the pound by Team Poundie after being badly let down by people in his past. While his body may be strong, his soul is gentle and unsure. He’s a loving, cuddly boy once trust is built—but he needs time, patience, and someone who truly sees him for who he is: an anxious pup doing his very best to feel safe.

What Our Team Says

Henry may appear giddy when he meets new people, but it’s not from confidence—it’s anxiety masked as enthusiasm. He overcompensates by trying to please, appease, and keep everyone happy. It’s a heartbreaking reflection of how much he wants to belong.

“He’s not being naughty—he’s just scared and doesn’t know how to relax yet.”

He’s affectionate, smart, and desperate to understand what’s expected of him. With consistent structure and kind leadership, Henry blossoms.

Their Personality & Progress

Henry thrives with training. He loves clear instructions, simple commands, and routines that help ease his anxiety. His crate is a safe space, and he is fully crate and toilet trained. He struggles to settle when overstimulated, which can lead to boisterous behaviour or destruction—but it’s not mischief, it’s confusion and overwhelm.

He’s been described as a “whirlwind”, constantly moving from point A to B, trying to manage the world around him. What he really needs is someone calm and grounded, who can teach him to breathe, slow down, and feel secure.

The Home They Need

  • A dog-free, pet-free home with no children under 12

  • Someone home most of the day—he doesn’t cope well with long periods alone

  • A physically capable adopter who understands or is open to learning about reactive and anxious dogs

  • A stable routine of walks, enrichment, training, and rest

  • No shouting, punishment, or harsh handling—only calm, positive guidance

  • An adopter who will commit to ongoing training and be patient while he learns to trust the world again

Henry has no resource guarding issues and loves to learn. Swapping rather than taking items from him will help reinforce your bond and build mutual trust. He doesn’t need dominance—he needs direction, compassion, and consistency.

Henry may be anxious, but he is not broken. With the right person, he will be a loyal, joyful, and deeply connected companion. He just needs that one chance.
