Barney is a gorgeous 3-year-old Cockerpoo, full of life and ready for a fresh start. He came into our care a few months ago after a change in circumstances. At first glance he’s a very handsome boy (with perhaps a little extra padding under all that fluff – but we think it just adds to his charm!).
When Barney first arrived at the kennels, things weren’t as straightforward as we hoped. He was absolutely terrified of people – so much so that no one could get close to him. We later discovered that he had nipped someone, which was the reason he was surrendered.
Instead of rushing to rehome him, we took a step back and focused on what he really needed: time, patience, and plenty of gentle reassurance. With consistency, kindness, and care, Barney has blossomed into a completely different dog.
Thanks to Kerry, who has been working closely with him, Barney’s confidence has grown beautifully. He now greets people happily with a wagging tail and plenty of kisses! He takes treats politely, enjoys meeting new faces, and is generally a cheerful, affectionate boy.
He has shown no issues being around other dogs nearby and even walked calmly through a paddock of young sheep, who seemed to think he was one of them! While he hasn’t been fully tested with other dogs yet, he shows no signs of fear or aggression. Most importantly, his trust in humans has been restored.
Barney is ready for his forever home, but he’ll need the right environment to continue thriving:
A calm, steady home without lots of comings and goings, so he can build his confidence in his own time.
Owners who understand that relationships take patience, and who won’t overwhelm or rush him.
An adult-only household, as we must be mindful of his past history of nipping.
Ideally, a home without other dogs, giving him space to continue his progress at his own pace.
Barney is neutered, in good health, and currently based in North Shropshire, where he can be met.
