2 Years Old | Neutered | Older Children
Alfie was pulled from a pound where his time had sadly run out. He’s an adult Lurcher-type dog with very limited eyesight, and without intervention, his future was bleak. Team Poundie stepped in, settling him into safe, comfortable kennels — but it was clear straight away that Alfie needed a home, and quickly.
A veterinary assessment confirms that Alfie is an adult dog, older than two years but not elderly.
Thankfully, a wonderful foster family came forward, and Alfie is now enjoying life in a loving (though temporary) home. Once he realised that food was regular and reliable, he relaxed significantly — the counter-surfing stopped, and his gentle nature really shone through.
Alfie behaves beautifully indoors. He enjoys lounging, cuddles, and calm companionship, and is fully house trained. He loves pottering around the garden, taking in the world through scent and sound rather than sight.
Alfie can be unsure around some dogs, likely due to his time homeless and his limited vision. When out walking, he may react by barking and then freezing, needing reassurance and gentle encouragement to move on.
That said, Alfie has successfully shared a home and garden with another dog without any aggression. His challenges come from over-excitement and a lack of doggy manners rather than malice. This can include bouncy play and mouthing, which is why we would recommend a home without small children.
Despite his eyesight, Alfie navigates the house and garden confidently. His close vision is very limited, so he may miss hand signals or treats held close, but he compensates well using his other senses. He has been fully vet-checked and, aside from his vision impairment, is a healthy adult dog. He has recently been neutered and is recovering well.
Alfie will thrive with the right environment and support. His ideal home would offer:
A calm, patient owner or family who can help him settle, decompress, and continue building confidence
Support with managing his reactivity to dogs when out walking (Team Poundie can assist with behaviourist support if needed)
An uncluttered home and garden so he can move around safely and confidently
An adult-only home, or one with older, dog-savvy children
Someone who is home most of the time, or can ensure Alfie is comfortable and safe when left alone
A very secure garden where he can explore independently
A calm, socially mature resident dog may be possible — and could even be a bonus to help him learn polite dog behaviour
Alfie’s foster family describe him as “gorgeous” — and we couldn’t agree more. He’s a gentle, affectionate soul who has already come so far and is so close to being everything he can be.
